Trust

I have been working through the challenging concept of Trust lately.

Trust is the belief that someone or something is reliable, good, honest, effective, etc.: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something: one in which confidence is placed. (Merriam Webster Dictionary)

We have had another blow to our family’s health. My husband has been directly exposed to pesticides sprayed in our area and has had a severe reaction; initially he ended up in hospital and then released without proper testing being done. The past week has been filled with ongoing visits to Doctors and Specialists as everyone tries to understand what has happened and how to help him. Our Doctor has told us to pray because we need a miracle. And so we pray and we trust.

We trust that while we go through this trial, we are being held safely in His hands and He is going to work this out. We trust in His unfailing and incredible Love that is working on our behalf behind the scenes and that we have yet to see the final outcome. We trust that He has brought us this far and He is not done with us yet. It is a huge struggle because panic rears its ugly head so many times. When fear and panic show up I drown them out with Worship to my King. I have found that singing praises is what shatters that looming fear that lurks around every corner. When I praise Him, sing songs to Him and Worship Him, it dispels all that darkness and it clears my focus so I can see Him clearly. I am reminded that we are on a journey that He has authored. HE IS THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

The NKJV Study Bible has a really interesting way of explaining this verse, “All of God’s creation is beautiful. The point is that God makes everything that way in its time. From divine perspective there is no ugliness in the events of our lives (Eccl 3:1-8). Eternity in their hearts refers to a deep-seated, compulsive drive to transcend our mortality by knowing the meaning and destiny of the world. Because we are made in the image of God, we have an inborn inquisitiveness about eternal realities. We can find peace only when we come to know our eternal Creator. Even then, we know God only in part (1 Cor 13:12). From beginning to end: All we see is the micro-moment of our own existence in the grand span of eternity. Thus the scriptures call people to live in robust faith during times of trial and pain; in the grand scheme of things, God will make everything beautiful.”

What an incredible Hope that brings.

I also hold onto to the words written in Psalm 139:1-6 NKJV

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have hedged me behind and before, and laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.”

He knows every moment, every word, and every thought. He knows each moment of our lives and He is going to turn all our messes into something incredibly beautiful. That tells me that He deeply cares for His kids and I find comfort in that. All of us at some point in our lives are like the little bird in the picture. A tragedy or trial throws us out of our safe place and God comes along and picks us up, holding us safely in His hands. He could so easily crush us but He chooses to comfort us, it even says in the Psalms that He sings over us. It is so much easier to run in circles panicked and fearful, rather than to make a conscious decision to Trust God in life’s hardest moments and to rest safely in His hands.

I will leave you with this promise that I am holding onto right now, from the One who embodies the very meaning of Trust:

Isaiah 41:10 NIRV “So do not be afraid. I am with you. Do not be terrified. I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will hold you safe in my hands.”
